Strategic Partnership Grant Program

These grants were awarded to proposals that exemplified the AAP’s mission of effecting positive change in Africa through meaningful, equitable partnerships.

The AAP issued an open call for proposals in September 2016 to encourage innovative new partnerships, provide inception period funds for MSU-African teams, and raise MSU’s presence and contributions to addressing key African and global challenges. With over 65 proposals received, the external and internal review process resulted in 15 proposals being chosen as recipients of the Alliance for African Partnership’s first-ever grant competition.

All proposals are led by teams that include both MSU faculty and partners from African organizations, and have the potential to create or build on long-term, sustainable collaborations.

Awardees received between $50,000-$200,000 for projects that target the AAP's thematic areas of agri-food systems; water, energy and the environment; youth empowerment; education; culture; and health and nutrition. Project activities include cooperative research, capacity building, outreach, network development, and bringing research to practice.
