During the spring semester of 2023, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Italy and Greece as a part of the Landscape Architecture program at Michigan State University. The approved study abroad program was a month-long trip split evenly between Italy and Greece. During our time in Italy, we were able to see Rome, Florence, and Venice. And in Greece, we visited Athens, Crete, and Santorini. I'm grateful for all of the support that allowed me to attend this program, which in hand, helped me towards my goals.
The experience I had studying abroad in Italy and Greece was invaluable to my academic and personal growth. Studying the landscape architecture and history of these countries gave me a unique perspective on how culture can be expressed through its built environment. I was able to pick up on each country's unique planting schemes, wayfinding, designs, and ways of transportation which allowed me to expand my knowledge base. These experiences have deepened my appreciation for the significance of monuments and cultural expression. And it has led me closer to my goal of creating design solutions that address community needs while promoting environmental responsibility.
I'm half Italian and half Chinese. This study abroad was personal for me as I was able to explore my Italian roots and culture. This opportunity gave me more insight into who I am. This program would not have been as manageable without the support of our scholarship donors. Their support has allowed me to further my education and gain memorable experiences that will help me reach my goals. And it allowed me to focus on learning and gaining valuable knowledge instead of worrying about other things. I will always remember their generous support, and one day I hope to give back. This study abroad has been an experience of a lifetime
