University Administration Support Program - IREX

AAP hosts research managers and faculty leaders from African universities each year through IREX's University Administration Support Program, funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York (https://www.irex.org/project/university-administration-support-program-uasp).

This program supportFellows in strengthening their universities to be leading research institutions that impact their communities. Fellows participate in a three-part program that includes online learning, a short placement at a respected US university, and training in Washington, DC. Following the program, Fellows share and implement plans or reforms at their home universities. AAP has served as a placement since 2018, and has hosted Fellows virtually, in-person, or both.

AAP invites experts from across MSU to facilitate sessions based on the interest of the FellowsAs research management is decentralized at MSU, we also involve MSU staff and leaders with expertise in technology transfer, supporting early career researchers and post-docs, data, pre- and post-award research administration and budgeting, promoting research agendas, and supporting publication, among others. AAP also sees this program as an opportunity for co-learning, in that the Fellows and MSU experts learn from each other’s experiences and activities at their respective universities.

AAP held an eight-week virtual program for eight Fellows in the fall of 2022. During winter 2023, AAP welcomes five of the eight Fellows to campus from February 20 through March 17We are hosting one fellow each from the University of Pretoria, Stellenbosch University, and the University of Ghana, and two Fellows from Addis Ababa University.
