It solidified my passion for early childhood education by exposing me to diverse teaching practices and integrating me into a supportive, close-knit community. The opportunity to teach in a classroom that embraced a variety of educational approaches was both inspiring and eye-opening.

On a personal level, studying abroad pushed me far beyond my comfort zone, promoting significant growth as both an individual and an educator. I developed greater independence, confidence, and adaptability, while also enriching my empathy and cultural awareness. Building meaningful relationships with my host family, local teachers, New Zealand citizens, and fellow Spartan educators enriched my experience and widened my perspective. Immersing myself in a new culture taught me to be more open-minded. Navigating a bilingual environment where English and Māori were spoken challenged me to improve my communication skills. Learning about Māori culture and language, and understanding cultural differences, helped me become more adept at interacting in multicultural settings.

One of the most valuable lessons from my time in New Zealand was the importance of incorporating indigenous perspectives into education and daily life. The respect for Māori culture and the integration of Māori values and language into the curriculum were truly eye-opening. Witnessing how Stella standing with local school children in New Zealandthese elements were woven into the classroom environment inspired me to consider how I can bring similar practices into my own teaching. Learning alongside the children about their community and values made me reflect on how these principles can enrich educational practices and foster a more inclusive environment.

I initially was uncertain what my time abroad would be like, but I never anticipated the profound impact it would have. The immersive nature of the experience, combined with the support I received, made it incredibly meaningful and impactful. This journey emphasized the importance of stepping outside one's comfort zone and highlighted the meaningful growth that can result from such experiences. It also emphasized the value of diversity in education, demonstrating how exposure to different cultures and teaching methods can improve one's significance as an educator.Group of students holding a Spartan flag in front of a building in Hobbiton
