What we learn in the classroom cannot amount to how much we learn in real life experiences. The taste of the red and white wines varying from winery to winery, the aromas of olive oils and smell of the roots and agricultural grounds of the olive tree, and the views of architecture and history from landmarks in each city are nothing compared to the descriptions we have been given in the classroom.
Not only was I given the opportunity to learn in fun and engaging ways, but I was able to make 28 lifelong friends. We were all able to navigate the host countries together by having group dinners outside of the program’s and by having outings in our free time at the market, beach, or visiting landmarks. This study abroad experience helped my personal and career goals because I was able to effortlessly socialize with new people and make plans with them every chance we got. Along with this, I was able to learn about new opportunities from my peers and from our site visits
I have traveled to so many countries in my life, but they do not amount to the experiences I was given during this study abroad. When you travel independently, you don’t get to create these deep connections with people who share the same interests with you, you don’t get to go to as many site visits as this program provides, and you don’t get to fully understand and learn as fully as the lectures you are taught back at home.
This program is really an honor, and I am so glad to have decided to study abroad.
