MSU GenCen is excited to announce the winners of the 2021 Paper & Activism Awards! These four awards

recognize both undergraduate and graduate MSU students for papers on gender related subjects as well as undergraduate student activism.

The Tracy Dobson Award honors an MSU undergraduate who has distinguished themselves through exemplary local, national, or international activism on behalf of gender equity and social justice. The award is named for Tracy Dobson, a retired MSU professor whose personal commitment to social justice & gender equity at MSU impacted and inspired many others. This year’s Trace Dobson Award winner is Taylor Belyea.

The Mary Anderson Award recognizes an exemplary undergraduate paper on gender in a global context and this year’s awardee is Chloé Damon. The Mary Anderson Award honors former women's rights activist and MSU Women's Studies scholar Mary Anderson, who lost her battle with breast cancer in 1993.

The Rita S. Gallin Award is for the best graduate paper on women and gender in global context, awarded to Anna Martínez-Hume. This award is named for Dr. Gallin in honor of her 13 years as director of the Women and International Development Program and her scholarship in the area of women, gender, international development, and globalization

Lastly, the RCGV Paper Award is presented jointly by MSU GenCen and the Research Consortium on Gender-Based Violence (RCGV) for an excellent undergraduate paper on gender-based violence. Gender-based violence includes any form of harm that is both a consequence and cause of gender power inequities. This year, the RCGV Paper Award winner is Jacqui Adams.
