On September 11, 2017, MSU signed a memorandum of understanding with Egerton University at their campus in Njoro, Kenya. The agreement aims to build capacity at the master's and PhD-level in the agricultural sector as well as to inform on the pressing policy issues facing Kenya. The initial partnership period will cover five years and the two institutions intend to come together to develop proposals that will allow partnership to go on for decades.

"We are hoping that there'll be a strong team of researchers and students who will be working together to mutually build the capacity of our institutions as well to produce good master's and PhD-level graduates," said Thomas Jayne, MSU Foundation Professor of Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics.
